It's the month of October now and our Nursery children definitely have had many hands-on experiences as they learnt new concepts and ideas in school.
They have tried playing with goop and learnt to identify different textures.
They have also been through the "Sound Walk" in our school's neighbourhood where they could hear the sounds of the vehicles passing by, the chirping of the birds, the wind, the rustle of the leaves and so on.
And then came the part on smelling, where the children had the opportunity to go on a "Smell Walk" around the neighbourhood.
And now, it was time to use their sense of taste!
Tongues out, children! :P
Orange juice vs Lime juice
First lesson was to differentiate the taste of orange juice and lime juice. Children knew the differences between both tastes. Orange juice was sweet while lime juice tasted sour. They now learnt two new words in their vocabulary list: sweet and sour.
Let us take a look at their reaction during this lesson. :)
This was Papaya group!
Amelia was looking at Hong Ze as he first smelt the orange juice before drinking it.

We Love Poppadoms!
Other than drinking, children also had a taste of salty food like poppadoms!
Majority loved the taste of poppadoms.
Here, they learnt the words: salty, crispy, plain, spicy, powdery
Children learnt that poppadoms were some type of Indian snack and they can be consumed with rice. They also knew that there were two types of poppadoms: plain and spicy.
This was Papaya group having fun touching the raw poppadom.
They said it was "slippery", "powdery", "soft" and that these raw poppadoms had an unpleasant smell.
Extension activity:
After the lesson on Poppadoms, Bevin and Jun Yin learnt to recognize numbers (numerals) and their quantities by playing with the raw poppadoms. They each took turns to match the numerals to the number of red dots (quantity).
Rui Xiang had a solo game as he played with the raw poppadoms.
He could match the numerals to the red dots very quickly indeed!
