What was the highlight for the month of July?
Yes it is none other than Racial Harmony Day which falls on the 21st!
On this special day, children were encouraged to wear their very own ethnic costumes and bring one thing that was related to their own race or culture for show and tell.
Ashraff brought two very nicely weaved ketupats made of ribbons.
He also wore his silver "baju kurung" and "songkok".
Cute right?

Harini was wearing her pink parvadee and Varinda was dressed in a casual, modern Eurasian wear.
Adding on to our Nursery Malay community, we have Shahirah wearing the "kebaya" and Ridzuan wearing his pink "baju kurung" and "songkok".
The teacher was introducing to the class what Hazel and Jun Yin were wearing and which race their costumes belongs to.
Can you make a guess? :)
We had show and tell and sing-along-sessions after the introduction. What was next?

Yes! Time for henna! Teacher Mairah and Teacher Mira were busy drawing henna on the children's hands. The children loved the drawings!
Ashraff wanted dinosaur on his hand. So here we go!
Now, Jun Yin's turn!
The Chinese teacher, Lu Lao Shi, had the children to try wrapping dumplings using paper and raffia strings!
Nadia seemed to like it!
Harini seemed very curious. Bevin wanted to know how to tie the raffia string.
After these activities, the children had the opportunity to try the Indian snack called "murukku" together as a class. They also had glutinous rice balls for high tea. It was a great celebration for all of us! :)
And for more academic matters, here we go! :)
As our Nursery children embarked on their learning journey to term 3, they had the opportunity to learn about animals specifically pets versus pests, animals that can fly and cannot fly, animals outdoors and animals indoors and many more. They are also learning to count in pairs. Let us take a quick peek into their learning journey!
As we learnt about bees, (insects that can fly), Xin Yi then attempted to do some first writing activity which focuses on tracing curved lines. Then, she coloured the bees and flowers.
Cedric was doing the same worksheet too. He was very focused, wasn't he?
As we learnt about animals outdoors, we also learnt about habitats of some animals, one of which is the pond where fishes can be found. The picture below depicts Hazel and Hong Ze fishing at the fish pond found at the dramatic corner. They not only caught fish but other creatures such as crabs, lobsters, frogs, turtles and many more!
Here, Jun Yin was thinking deeply. Where should I place this card? Does this animal found in the classroom or outdoors?
"Dog can be found outdoors!"
Qiu Ling also joined in the activity.
Here, Jia Ying was counting the number of birds. She placed two birds on the hut which has number "2" written on it. She could recognize numbers 1 to 5 and could count in 1-1 correspondence. Good job!
And here, Bevin was arranging the animal cards into pairs as he counted them in sets of 2. He understood the term "pairs". Two thmbs up!
Qiu Ling and Yoke Xuen were sitting on the sofa, peacefully reading books about animals at the library corner.
These four boys were really curious to see what the terrapins were doing.
Isn't it great to have a chance to peek at their learning journey? More to come in August so stay tuned! :)
